Disclaimer: This is a list of the most common poisonous plants and flowers but it is
by no means complete. If the plant is not on this list, that doesn't necessarily
make it edible or non-poisonous. Be sure you know what you are putting in your
mouth!

Dislaimer:
The author and Home Cooking Guide have thoroughly researched all
the aforementioned edible flowers. However, individuals consuming the flowers,
plants, or derivatives listed here do so entirely at their own risk.

Wow! What a list! :-D I've been looking for a compilation like this one...didn't realize geraniums could be eaten...they smell somewhat musty to me...not my favorite scent, really.

I *have* heard of candied violets though...I hear they're supposed to be good.

Wow...nice list ansu thank you.

A word about clover though. Please make sure you only ingest Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) if you choose to use it in salads or whatever.

Alsike clover (Trifolium hybridum) is known to be toxic to livestock if consumed in large quantities, so I would be wary of it's safety as a food item for humans too.

Evan more alarming, something I just recently discovered. White Clover (Trifolium repens) can be deadly and cause cases of cyanide poisoning. This toxic variety apparently grows in warmer climate zones, so us northerners needn't worry much, but if you live in a southern state please beware.

Here's a link to an article about toxic clover.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/10/071001151308.htm

And here's another link with an article that includes some reasonably decent pictures of the three varieties.

@ druidkat. Yes candied violets are sweet and delicious. Easy to make too. Better to be on the safe side and use dried pasteurized egg whites instead of raw egg whites should you decide to make your own.

I munch on red clover blossoms all the time while hiking and never had a problem digesting them.

I like to stuff the wild daylillies that grow by the road with cheese for an impressive appetizer when I'm late for a party or something.

Must stress this out. The most common intoxications in livestock is due to clover. When I get home I will translate the complete list of poisonous plants to post here.  Wink

Sure! I don't know when I'll be able to put here the other half of the list (my computer died and the file is there...) but feel free to share it.

Since I had a toxicology class on plants I have become very careful in using them. Most houseplants are horribly poisonous to any mammal and often children feel the urge to eat them. I think it's something to take in consideration when collecting edible plants.

Ah and if you want I think we have some traditional recipes with flowers. I will search for them as well. xD
